WHO WE ARE
CTBA is a non-governmental organization whose goal is to promote the importance of research and citizens’ participation in policy making with particular focus on policies (including laws) relating to trade and business environment reforms.
We believe that well-functioning markets hold the key to inclusive economic growth. Markets function well when they are free from the undue influence of special interest groups and when there are proper regulatory frameworks to check abuses. This is the underlying philosophy behind our work.
Our Mission
Promoting collective understanding and action among state and non-state actors towards development-oriented trade and regulatory governance reforms.
Our Vision
To be a reputable voice for the promotion of equitable markets for sustainable development.
WHAT WE WORK ON
Our work is divided into five related themes or programmes, viz:
Trade and Regional Integration
Our work under this programme explores the political economy of trade policy in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. We interrogate the constraints to the realisation of stated policy goals and objectives at national, regional and continental levels and seek creative ways to surmount those constraints.
Competition and Consumer Protection
We realise that while competition enhances consumer welfare, more needs to be done in the area of protecting consumers from harmful and unsafe products, unfair business practices. We are committed to promoting the full gamut of consumer rights and ensuring that laws and policies are adequate and effectively enforced in this regard.
Digital Economy, Innovation Intellectual Property
Our work under this theme seeks to explore how the public and private actors can work together to unleash the potentials of the digital economy, accelerate innovation and reform national, regional and international regimes intellectual property protection towards shared prosperity.
Renewable Energy and Sustainability
Our work in this area focuses on addressing the policy and commercial constraints to accelerate the development and adoption of renewable in Nigeria and Africa. We are also committed to promoting other sustainable approaches to production and consumption such as circular economy, voluntary sustainability standards, etc.
Anti-Corruption and Public Sector Transparency
Our short term goal in this regard is to advocate for the reform of natural resource governance in Nigeria and Africa, particularly, the enactment of the Petroleum Industry Bills in Nigeria and the institution of a legal framework for beneficial ownership disclosure across Africa.
