WHO WE ARE

Promoting equitable markets for development.

CTBA is a non-governmental organization whose goal is to promote the importance of research and citizens’ participation in policy making with particular focus on policies (including laws) relating to trade and business environment reforms. We seek to provide platforms for researchers, policy makers and citizens to interact with the view to ensuring that these policies are not just evidence based, but follow a participatory process in their making. We believe that well-functioning markets hold the key to inclusive economic growth. Markets function well when they are free from the undue influence of special interest groups and when there are proper regulatory frameworks to check abuses. This is the underlying philosophy behind our work.

CTBA is a response to the gap created by the absence of independent policy advocacy organization in the area of trade policy and regulatory governance in Nigeria. The existing organizations are mostly private sector interest groups who seek to advance the interests of their members in policy processes. CTBA also seeks to entrench the culture of evidence based advocacy embedded in a sound understanding of the political economy context of each reform we advocate for.

Our Mission

Promoting collective understanding and action among state and non-state actors towards development oriented trade and regulatory governance reforms.

Our Vision

To be a reputable voice for the promotion of equitable markets for sustainable development.

HOW WE WORK

Research

In realisation of the importance of research in informing sound policy positions, we make research the bedrock of our advocacy efforts. We undertake in-house research on issues of interests. However, at the heart of our organizational strategy is to create linkage with and among research institutions and think tanks for the purpose of promoting policy research in in Nigeria and Africa. Therefore, it is our deliberate policy to leverage on the capabilities of research institutions within and outside Nigeria in our bid to generate evidence for policy advocacy.

Advocacy

This is at the core of our work. We seek to drive reforms that would unleash inclusive growth and development. We engage with a wide range of stakeholders such as government (including the legislature) private sector, regional and international bodies, civil society organisations, academic community, etc. We explore and deploy all tools of advocacy within our reach in passing our message across to the target stakeholders.

Knowledge Management and Capacity Building

We seek to generate, collate and share knowledge, experiences and best practices on our areas of work. To this end, we organize workshops, seminars, and tailored training events as the need arises.
